Fashion Friday: a two-faced bounty hunter

Yet another week with just the one blog post. As a result of stress, my mood has been bouncing up and down a lot lately - and unfortunately down most of the time. University deadlines, chronic pain & fatigue and a terminally ill dad abroad that's quickly deteriorating seem to provide the perfect cocktail for depression. And depression deprives me of any creativity - creativity sorely needed to write blog posts.

Luckily Conrad's there to save the day, donating some sweet pictures of his powertech Shyala. I hope to show how seeming ugliness has its own beauty.

Shyala is gold on the right (left) and silver on the left (right) - yup, I just did that to confuse you

Shyala is not exactly of the subtle, emphatic kind. That would only get in the way when doing mercenary work (her words). Looking pretty is not one of her priorities - in fact, I'm positive Shyala would make a weird face when inquiring about make-up. She does, however, spend some time on her hair each morning. Only because it helps with intimidating clients and targets, of course.

The theme of her appearance is duality. Shyala has a "good side" (her left, represented by a relatively intact face and silver armour) and a "bad side" (her heavily affected right side, represented by scars and gold armour). I thought this often overlooked crafted armour set was a clever find that perfectly matches the character.

The set

  • Electrum Onslaught Chestguard (L50, heavy, crafted)
  • Electrum Onslaught Gauntlets (L50, heavy, crafted)
  • Electrum Onslaught Belt (L50, heavy, crafted)
  • Electrum Onslaught Greaves (L50, heavy, crafted)
  • Electrum Onslaught Vambraces (L50, heavy, crafted)
  • TT-16A Powered Assault Boots (L40, heavy, world drop) (unify colours)

The following items look exactly the same as the TT-16A Powered Assault Boots and are all L50 world drops: RD-16A Havoc Boots (moddable), TH-16A Tech Boots (moddable), Prototype ArmaTek Advanced Blastguard Boots MKIII (unmoddable, blue quality). There might be more out there with the same look, but these were the ones I could quickly find.

The boots of the crafted Electrum Onslaught set are weird-looking, with two pins sticking outwards to the front on each feet. Luckily the TT-16A Powered Assault Boots look as if they're made to fit with the armour, the right one colouring gold and the left one silver when using the unify colours option. The chest piece includes a built-in jetpack: an indispensable item for every self-respecting bounty hunter.

  1. great shots (as always!), and I really love the duality of the character and how it's been accentuated by the armour

and really sorry to hear you're having such a bad week and I'm so sorry to hear about your dad - I find it so difficult to find the right written words, I'm sorry - I hope a batch of emote hugs will do instead (((( ))))

    1. These shots were done by Conrad for a change, so I'll pass on the compliments! He takes just as much care and pleasure in assembling outfits for his characters as I do, so it's only fair they get to shine here as well. Plus, I'm really thankful he's aiding a blogger in need. ^^

Thank you so much for the hugs and kind words. They really do help a bit.

  2. That is a pretty cool outfit with a pretty interesting idea about the duality. Although I am not sure if I'd say it is a question of beauty as much as of coolness. Yeah, I know, I am nitpicking. :p

And like Eldariel I don't know what to say in a situation like this as no words feel right or adequate. I am really sorry for what you and your dad are going through. I hope that in what parts can get better than it comes soon and in what can not than that it be brief so there isn't as much suffering. :(

    1. Aww. :) I thought I'd left the depression behind me, but I guess these days are taxing to everyone in my close family. The digital hugs really do help, thanks.

  6. "Shares her M&M's Mint" Only available around this time of the year, got them on 1st, Hubby knew I wasn't feeling well myself. Also ((((HUGS)))) cause who doesn't like hugs? Well I don't in all reality unless it's the drink I can mix with Capt. Morgan. Anyways just thought I'd send some hugs, and try to bring a smile or a small laugh. Can't lose humor even in the amidst of all the bad around.
